With Week 9 in the books, it is time to look ahead to Week 10 and place our FAAB bids. This week, we will take a look at a few under-rostered players in Miami. On the pitching side, Lance McCullers Jr. enjoyed a career start this week and saw his fantasy stock skyrocket, and we have a new closer on the North Side of Chicago.
Our series about FAAB fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups continues as we head into Week 10 of the 2025 MLB season -- June 2 through June 8. This waiver wire article will recommend free agents to target and how much FAAB you should allocate for them.
Each week, I will break down at least one player from each position with ownership percentages under 40 percent in Yahoo! leagues who could improve your roster and provide you with an added boost in several categories. Let's get to it!

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Hitters to Target
Carlos Narvaez, C, Boston Red Sox

FAAB Bid: <20% if needing a No. 2 catcher, <3% for others
Even with Connor Wong back in action, Carlos Narvaez has not only continued to hold onto the starting job behind the dish but has run away with it. Since May 1, Narvaez has only taken a seat five times. During this stretch, the 26-year-old has held a strong .375/.452/.563 line with six doubles and two home runs.
Under the hood, Narvaez has generated a solid .331 xwOBA with an above-average 91.3 mph average exit velocity and a 12.4% barrel rate. If you need a No. 2 catcher bid comfortably on Narvaez.
Henry Davis, C, Pittsburgh Pirates

FAAB Bid: <2% in deeper two-catcher leagues
Don't look now, but Henry Davis was one of the most productive catchers in the past week. In his last six games, the former first-overall pick posted an impressive .412 AVG with a double and a home run. Currently, Joey Bart (concussion) is on the 7-day concussion injury list, which has opened a spot for Davis to see consistent playing time.
While Davis has yet to put it together in the majors, the 25-year-old could be worth taking a flier on in deeper 14+ team formats. At Triple-A this season, Davis held a .278 AVG before earning the promotion to Pittsburgh.

Miguel Vargas, 1B/3B/OF, Chicago White Sox

FAAB Bid: <20%
After an impressive showing last week, the former Dodger has continued to hit and should be viewed as a starting-caliber player going forward. Over his past five games, Vargas has hit for a .364 AVG and added five doubles and two home runs. Since May 13, Vargas has held a .311/.348/.721 line with six long balls.
Vargas has continued to see time batting primarily within the top-3 spots in the Chicago lineup. He has also provided value in points leagues given his strong 17.7% K rate. Given his ability to play numerous positions, he should be near the top of your waiver claim this weekend.

Gavin Sheets, 1B/OF, San Diego Padres

FAAB Bid: <25%
Gavin Sheets has been a recurring player in this column but is nearing the 20%-rostership mark. In his last seven contests, Sheets has continued to showcase his power upside, launching five long balls with 11 RBI.
Even though he plays in a strict platoon (on the strong side), he should be viewed as a must-roster player going forward. If available in your league, spend big; this may be your last chance to acquire him.

Otto Lopez, 2B/3B, Miami Marlins

FAAB Bid: <18%
Otto Lopez missed two weeks of action with a sprained ankle but has been quite effective since his return. Over his last nine contests, Lopez has posted a strong .273/.351/.485 slash line with one double, two home runs, and two stolen bases. Before his injury, Lopez held a .229/.294/.330 line with two home runs and three stolen bases.
Lopez has generated an impressive .285 xBA (82nd percentile) and sits in the 81st percentile in sprint speed. Lopez has also shown a strong eye at the plate, holding a 12.2% K rate (second percentile). While his power production may not be stable, he should continue to produce a strong batting average with 20+ stolen base upside.
Caleb Durbin, 2B/3B/SS, Milwaukee Brewers

FAAB Bid: <10% if needing speed, <5% for others
Caleb Durbin was shipped to Milwaukee in the deal that sent closer Devin Williams to the Bronx during the winter. Durbin got off to a slow start over his first 28 MLB games, posting a low .169/.263/.241 line with just three doubles and one stolen base. However, the No. 21-ranked prospect in the system has begun to turn the corner.
Over his last 10 contests, Durbin has started in each game and posted a strong .306/.366/.444 line with five doubles and three stolen bases. While Durin carries even less power upside than Lopez, he possesses similar speed upside. Similar to Lopez, he will also provide value in deeper points leagues, with his elite 7.2% K rate.
Other 2Bs to consider: Isiah Kiner-Falefa PIT, Angel Martinez CLE
Connor Norby, 2B/3B, Miami Marlins

FAAB Bid: <17%
Connor Norby was a popular breakout pick entering the season, but he dealt with an oblique injury through the first month of the season. However, over his first 35 games since returning, Norby has continued to perform, holding a .276/.319/.425 line. Since May 11 (16 games), Norby has been one of the better infielders in fantasy, holding a .328/.361/.517 line.
While he will not carry as much value in points leagues given his low walk rate and high strikeout rate, fantasy managers looking to boost their infield power should target Norby.
Brett Baty, 2B/3B, New York Mets

FAAB Bid: <15%
Baty was a featured player in this column two weeks ago when he enjoyed a three-home run weekend series against the Chicago Cubs (May 9 - May 11). However, after this surge, Baty went on to post a .150 AVG over his next eight games, and as a result, many fantasy managers cut ties with the former first-round pick.
Although, unlike Baty from the past, 2025 Baty has been able to break out of his slump and has gotten back on track. In his last eight games, the 25-year-old has posted a .360/.448/.520 line with a long ball and a stolen base. Baty continues to see an everyday role in the Mets' lineup and still sits above the average marks in hard-hit rate, barrel rate, and xSLG.
Coby Mayo, 3B, Baltimore Orioles

FAAB Bid: <11%
With Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) and Jordan Westburg (hamstring) both on the injured list, the Orioles recalled top third base prospect Coby Mayo on Saturday. While Mayo has been given two previous stints in the majors, he was rarely given consistent playing time. However, this stint could be different as the Orioles are missing their two starting corner infielders.
At Triple-A, Mayo has flashed elite power upside, which makes him worth targeting. He was already in the starting nine on Saturday and went 1-for-3 with an RBI, which is a positive sign. If he is given at-bats, he could finally break out.
Other 3B to consider: Eric Wagaman MIA, Miguel Vargas CWS
Isiah Kiner-Falefa, 2B/3B/SS, Pittsburgh Pirates

FAAB Bid: <10% if needing batting average, <3% for others
While he may be the boring selection, Kiner-Falefa has continued to hit. In his last 11 games, Kiner-Falefa has been one of the lone bright spots of the Pittsburgh offense, holding a strong .359/.390/.487 line. During this stretch, he has tallied five doubles and swiped one bag.
While his ninth percentile xSLG will make him a non-factor in the power department, he will continue to see an everyday spot in the lineup and produce a high batting average with double-digit speed upside.
Cole Young, 2B/SS, Seattle Mariners
5% rostered
FAAB Bid: <8% in deeper leagues, <4% in shallow formats
The Mariners promoted their top prospect, Cole Young, prior to their contest on Saturday evening. In this game, Young got the starting nod at the keystone and went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Earlier this season at Triple-A, Young held a .277/.392/.461 slash line with 13 doubles, five home runs, and a 28:31 K:BB.
Fantasy managers should bid carefully for Young. While he got the start on Saturday, he will still compete with Dylan Moore for opportunities at second base, as J.P. Crawford will be the everyday shortstop. As a result, he should be viewed as a solid middle infielder in deeper leagues.
Jorge Mateo, 2B/SS, Baltimore Orioles

FAAB Bid: <7% if needing speed, <1% for others
After stealing 30+ SBs in each campaign in 2022 and 2023, Jorge Mateo had a disappointing 2024 season as he stole just 13 bags. However, through the opening two months of 2025, Mateo has already swiped 12 bags and appears to have returned to his elite stolen base upside.
Over his last nine games, Mateo has swiped seven bags and held a .286 AVG. With Jordan Westburg (hamstring) embarking on a rehab assignment, Mateo could be in danger of losing playing time. In deeper category formats, Mateo could provide a much-needed boost to your stolen base totals.

Ryan O'Hearn, 1B/OF, Baltimore Orioles

FAAB Bid: <35%
Similar to Gavin Sheets, Ryan O'Hearn should be at the top of your waiver claim this weekend. While the Orioles have had a disappointing start to the season, O'Hearn has been one of, if not the only, bright spot. Through 31 games, the 31-year-old has posted a stellar .338/.427/.550 slash line with five home runs and two stolen bases.
Under the hood, O'Hearn has generated an elite .405 xwOBA (94th percentile) and a .327 xBA (99th percentile), which suggests he should remain an elite four-category contributor going forward.

Sal Frelick, OF, Milwaukee Brewers

FAAB Bid: <25% if needing batting average, <9% for others
Sal Frelick is surprisingly under-rostered in Yahoo! leagues. Through 54 games, Frelick has posted an elite .294/.362/.401 line with three home runs and 10 stolen bases. Over his last 17 games, Frelick has posted an elite .317 AVG with three stolen bases.
In addition to his high batting average upside, Frelick is a must-roster in points leagues, given his 93rd percentile strikeout rate.
Robert Hassell III, OF, Washington Nationals

FAAB Bid: <10% in category leagues and <5% for others
My final outfielder to highlight is Robert Hassell III of the Washington Nationals. Hassell was given the call to the big leagues last week with both Dylan Crews (oblique) and Jacob Young (shoulder) on the IL. Hassell has started in center field in each of his first six games.
On Wednesday, he began to snap his skid, tallying three hits and launching his first long ball. Earlier this season at Triple-A, Hassell flashed five-category potential, holding a .288/.337/.405 line with four home runs and nine stolen bases (across 43 contests).

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers to Target
Edward Cabrera, SP, Miami Marlins
8% rostered
FAAB Bid: <11%
Edward Cabrera has been a difficult pitcher to trust throughout his career. Throughout his career, the right-hander has flashed high strikeout upside but has yet to enjoy extended success. However, Cabrera was one of the most productive pitchers in May and could be turning the corner.
Since May 1, Cabrera has held an impressive 2.53 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP across 21 1/3 innings. During this stretch, he has allowed just five free passes and struck out 23 batters. Given his recent start, he is worth an investment if you need a starting pitcher.
Noah Cameron, SP, Kansas City Royals
20% rostered
FAAB Bid: <10%
Noah Cameron was included in my column last week, and this may be the last chance to acquire the budding southpaw. The left-hadner has continued to impress during his first taste of the majors, logging 25 2/3 innings to the tune of a 1.05 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. He has struck out just 16 batters but has shown strong command, allowing eight total walks.
Under the hood, Cameron sits in the 75th and 71st percentiles in xERA and xBA. However, while he should be near the top of your waiver claim when looking for a pitcher, bid with caution. Cole Ragans (groin) is nearing a return and could force Cameron to revert to Triple-A.
While his production has been nothing short of excellent, the Royals could opt to have their young starter continue to fine-tune his pitches at Triple-A.
Lance McCullers Jr., SP, Houston Astros
7% rostered
FAAB Bid: <20%
The 31-year-old missed the previous two seasons working his way back from Tommy John and several setbacks. He made his season debut on May 4 and tossed 3 2/3 shutout innings against the White Sox. However, over his next three starts (8 2/3 innings), McCullers stumbled as he allowed nine runs and held a 10:7 K:BB.
McCullers was able to bounce back in a big way on May 28, tossing six innings of three-run ball with 12 punchouts against the Athletics.
His primary pitch, his slider, is due for some significant positive regression, as it has generated a .344 xSLG, compared to the .522 SLG it currently holds.
He should be rostered for his strikeout upside alone. If he continues to find his footing, he could be a must-start option by the second half of the campaign.

Daniel Palencia, RP, Chicago Cubs

FAAB Bid: <30% if needing saves
I wrote about Palencia last week, and I really hope you were able to get him at a discount. If not, be prepared to open your FAAB wallet this weekend. With Ryan Pressly struggling through the first two months and Porter Hodge (oblique) on the IL, the Cubs have turned to Palencia to be their de facto closer.
Since allowing two runs on May 19, Palencia has tallied four saves in his past four appearances. During this four-inning stretch, the right-hander has struck out five batters and allowed just one hit and no runs. The 25-year-old is a must-roster going forward as he could carry 25+ save upside if he holds the job for the remainder of the season.

Bubba Chandler, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates

FAAB Bid: <10%
Bubba Chandler, Roman Anthony, and Jac Caglianone will remain the top prospects to stash. If any of them are available in your league, prioritize them on waivers this weekend. When they get the call, they will be viewed as must-start options going forward.
Chandler gets the spotlight in this column as he just tossed a season-high 6 1/3 innings in his most recent outing. In this start, the right-hander struck out five batters and allowed just one hit.
Other prospects to monitor: Roman Anthony BOS, Jac Caglianone KC
